My treatment approaches include EMDR, CBT, psychodynamic, somatic, interpersonal, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness.
When we have upsetting painful experiences, they may become stored in our system with images, sounds, thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. When our old experiences are triggered by what’s happening now, we may have disproportionally big and strong reactions. EMDR is a structured therapy that utilizes bilateral stimulation (eye movement or tapping) to help our thinking brain connect with our survival brain. Through the new connections (reprocessing), we can become less reactive and more intentional with our behaviors. We can respond to what is happening now, instead of reacting to what triggers us from the past.
CBT is an evidence-based treatment method that helps people identify, challenge, and change automatic thoughts that often contribute to unhelpful coping behaviors and recurring emotional difficulties.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is in-depth talk therapy that aims to alleviate emotional suffering and illuminate repeated relational problems. I foster a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance that supports your process of self-reflection and self-awareness. Together, we will explore your interactions with yourself, others, and between the therapist and client as various windows into your relationship patterns.
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that helps people release the effects of traumatic experience on the body. We cannot think out way out of trauma through talk therapy alone. The interventions emphasize kinesthetic and bodily awareness (postures, movement, etc.) and working within the window of tolerance. Somatic psychology promotes long-lasting changes by challenging limiting beliefs and discovering emotional and behavioral patterns that get in the way of your well-being.
Interpersonal psychotherapy is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on improving interpersonal relationships and alleviating depressive symptoms. This structured therapy approach aims to help people develop healthier communication skills, improve their ability to make and keep relationships, and better manage life transitions.
Therapy is not having a therapist give you advice. It is about you making changes. I practice motivational interviewing to assist people in finding their internal motivation to change. Before people can actively engage in making difficult changes, they may need help with resolving ambivalence or insecurities about change and with figuring out why and how they want to change.
Mindfulness originated from the Buddhist practice of being in the present moment without judgment. Several research studies have shown that mindfulness as a clinical intervention reduces emotional reactivity and improves behavioral regulation. Mindfulness is used in stress reduction, meditation, and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy.
I am an in-network provider for members of Aetna, Cigna & Evernorth, and Optum insurance. Before beginning therapy, I recommend that you contact your insurance company to verify your deductible and copayment amount and that your specific health plan covers virtual outpatient psychotherapy with me.
I can provide a superbill for your payments. Here are the steps you can take to find out if your insurance plan provides benefits with an out-of-network provider:
Call your insurance company. Find the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card.
Ask if you have out-of-network benefits: Does my plan cover out-of-network benefits for mental health care, specifically for outpatient psychotherapy through telehealth?
Determine reimbursement rates: What percentage will my plan cover? What is the maximum amount my plan will reimburse for virtual mental health service with a psychologist? or What is the maximum allowed amount for CPT codes 90834.95 and 90837.95 (service codes for an online psychotherapy session)?
Check your deductible: Do I have a deductible for out-of-network mental health services?
An acorn holds the potential for growth into strength and prosperity. By selecting and integrating various treatment approaches, according to your specific needs, I strive to support your efforts to grow and flourish.
I offer virtual psychotherapy only. All video sessions take place on a secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Since I am licensed in the State of California, you must be physically located in California for all appointments.
